HIST& 118 - Western Civilization III 5 credits
Prerequisites Concurrent enrollment in ENGL 095 or placement in ENGL& 101 , or instructor permission.
A survey of European society, culture and politics from the Seventeenth to the Twentieth Centuries emphasizing the rise of science, the Enlightenment, Romanticism, the French Revolution, industrialism, imperialism, and the prelude and resulting impacts of two world wars. We will explore the “nature” of the modern world and the social tensions it has produced.
Theory Hours 5 theory hours.

Course Outcomes
- Demonstrate the ability to gather, contextualize, and present multiple views of historical data.
- Demonstrate ability in using basic historical methods such as the understanding of primary sources and the appropriate use of other scholars’ work.
- Demonstrate an awareness of history as a tool toward active citizenship and successful participation in a diverse society.
