BASF 311 - Environmental Conflicts 5 credits
Prerequisites Admission to the BAS-FRM program or instructor permission.
This course introduces students to conflict theory as applied in complex natural resources disputes, including case studies in the Pacific Northwest. During this course we will focus on skill development in planning culturally appropriate and inclusive public participation processes, meeting facilitation and conflict mediation.
Course Outcomes
- Analyze cases studies of environmental conflict with a focus on Western environmental issues
- Examine and identify federal, state and local laws commonly used in environmental conflict resolution
- Attend or review a public hearing for an environmental conflict and write a report on the processes used (formal and informal) in the hearing
