BASM 301 - Writing and Managing Grants 5 credits
Prerequisites Admission to the BASOM or BS program.
This course provides an overview of the entire grant cycle - from concept to closeout and the basic elements that must be present when developing a grant proposal. Students will identify and apply strategies to satisfy funders while accomplishing program objectives. Students learn research and write effective grant documents that are compelling to a funding agency. Students will develop skills for grant planning and grant management including grant budgets.
Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
• Evaluate Request for Proposals (RFPs) and design comprehensive grant proposals that respond effectively to funding criteria.
• Construct accurate grant budgets and manage the grant lifecycle, including application, implementation, and reporting stages.
• Synthesize and integrate research findings from credible sources to produce well-structured grant proposals and related documentation.
• Collaborate with peers to develop grant-related documents and critique each other’s work to improve clarity, coherence, and impact.
• Assess grant reporting requirements and formulate a structured and compliant reporting plan aligned with funder expectations.
