BASM 404 - Interpretation of Accounting - Accounting for Decision Making


5 credits

Prerequisites
Admission to the BASOM or BS program, completion of ACCT& 201  with a “C” or better.

Students will utilize the principles and methods of accounting systems for decision making and interpret financial and managerial accounting documents. The link between accounting information and managerial functions will be analyzed. Understanding that accounting is an integral part of the firm’s organizational structure, and not just an isolated department, students will determine the strengths and limitations of accounting systems and utilize accounting information as managers, for decision making, control, planning, and to measure and evaluate performance. The relationships between accounting and other organizational activities will be emphasized.

Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

 

•Distinguish between strategic and control issues within an organization and analyze how they interact to support organizational goals.

•Identify, assess, and prioritize organizational risks and propose appropriate control measures to mitigate them.

•Evaluate an organization’s control systems and recommend improvements to enhance effectiveness and compliance.

•Explain how information is used for organizational control and analyze its role in decision-making and performance management.

•Apply critical thinking and structured problem-solving processes, including identifying problems, generating alternative solutions, evaluating information, and managing uncertainty using appropriate decision-making tools.
