MATH 060 - Introduction to Quantitative Literacy 5 credits
Prerequisites Appropriate placement test score or instructor permission.
This course is designed to provide students a foundation of essential Quantitative Literacy skills. Course topics includes problem solving involving orders of operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Evaluating ratios, proportions, and percents. Identifying and applying relationships between various measurements, evaluating measurement calculations involving formulas of geometric objects and applying basic statistical knowledge and finance to real world applications. Students will apply foundational algebra techniques to translate, evaluate, and solve basic algebraic equations. Effective communication of these ideas and application to everyday situations are part of the curriculum. Problem solving strategies will be stressed.
Theory Hours 5 theory hours.
Course Outcomes
- Simplify and evaluate problems involving whole numbers, fractions, mixed numbers and decimals.
- Translate, solve and evaluate problems involving measurement.
- Interpret, solve, and evaluate problems involving statistics and algebraic applications.
- Solve and simplify ratios, proportions and percents.
Note This course does not meet any degree requirements.
