ALSA 208 - Law/Ethics & Treatment of Substance Use 4 credits
This course will cover the appropriate interaction between substance use disorder professionals and consumers of substance use disorder (SUD). Ethical principles will be applied in a SUD Treatment context, and relevant WACs will be covered. Also covered will be the interaction of Substance Use Disorder treatment facilities and the various elements of the judicial system. A primary focus will be the legal responsibility of individual substance use professionals in the State of Washington. Course meets the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) requirement for SUD Credential.
Theory Hours 4 Theory hours.
Vocational Program Course Vocational program course.
AA General Elective May be used as a general elective in the AA degree.
Course Outcomes
- Examine the ethical boundaries between counselors and consumer.
- Distinguish the difference between sponsorship and professional counseling.
- Critique conflicts of interest.
- Washington State Judicial System, Washington Administrative Codes pertaining to drug and alcohol treatment.
- Demonstrate skills utilizing ASAM placement criteria and the purpose of ASAM criteria.
- Demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality and boundary issues.
- Examine treatment planning.
