AUTO 282 - Advanced Electrical/Electronics/HVAC/Engines 2 4 credits
Prerequisites Placement in MATH 060 , ENGL 060 , and READ 090 . AUTO 281 . AUTO 202 or co-enrollment.
The course is the second part of a two-part course that builds on Auto 201 to meet Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation (ASEEF) Master Automotive Repair Technician standards under electrical-electronic systems, engine repair and heating and air conditioning. Students will use applications of engine diagnosis, teardown, measurement techniques, and part wear/failure analysis to make diagnosis of engine systems. Students will prepare engines for machining. It will include a study of basic electrical concepts, including Ohm’s Law as well as electrical circuit schematic reading, wire repair and use of electrical test equipment. Also included will be applied diagnosis of the automotive batteries, starting systems and charging systems. This course will apply the principles of refrigeration in the heating and air conditioning systems currently used by the automotive industry including manual, semiautomatic, and automatic systems in diagnostics of their function. The course will include diagnostics of the electrical control circuits for the compressor, blower, and coolant fan(s). Service and repair procedures will be presented and practiced by the student. Safety procedures for handling refrigerants (R-12, 134-A, and R1234YF) are applied.
