AUTO 101 - Intro to Electrical/Electronics/HVAC/Engines 1 8 credits
Prerequisites Placement in MATH 060 , ENGL 060 , and READ 090 .
Corequisites INDT 101 .
This course is the first part of a two-part course that teaches skills to meet Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation (ASEEF) Maintenance and Light Repair Technician standards under electrical-electronic systems, engine repair and heating and air conditions. It will include a study of basic electrical concepts, including Ohm’s Law as well as electrical circuit schematic reading, wire repair and proper use of electrical test equipment. Also included will be a study of automotive batteries, starting and charging systems. Also, a study of the principles of refrigeration, and the heating and air conditioning systems currently used by the automotive industry including manual, semiautomatic, and automatic systems. The description, purpose and function of air conditioning system components are explained in this course. Safety procedures for handling refrigerants (R-12, 134-A, and R1234YF) are discussed. Students will be introduced to engine construction, valve and camshaft arrangements, engine cooling, and lubrication systems.
