ENGL& 101 - English Composition I 5 credits
Prerequisites Placement in ENGL& 101, or a grade of “C” or better in ENGL 095 , or instructor permission.
ENGL& 101 focuses on strategies for reading and thinking critically to write logically developed college-level texts. ENGL& 101 covers rhetorical principles and the development of evidence-backed expository and argumentative texts. Students engage in a writing process to produce compositions that demonstrate audience awareness and use appropriate writing conventions. 5 theory hours.

Course Outcomes Upon completing English 101, students will be able to:
- Develop and use strategies to comprehend the content and context of college-level reading materials and to evaluate the quality and appropriateness of those materials for a given setting or audience (rhetorical situation).
- Use rhetorical knowledge (audience, purpose, etc.) to make conscious choices when analyzing, organizing, and composing texts
- Identify information needs and locate, analyze, critically evaluate, integrate, and appropriately attribute information sources
- Engage and reflect upon a composing process that includes prewriting, drafting, participating in a feedback process, revising, and editing
