BIOL& 242 - Human Anatomy and Physiology II

Prerequisites
Grade of “C” or better in BIOL& 160 or BIOL& 211 within the last 5 years and a grade of “C” or better in BIOL& 241 within the last 5 years, concurrent enrollment in BIOL& 242 Lab.

A continued study of the structure and function of the human body. The following systems are studied: the cardiovascular, lymphatic/immune, respiratory, urinary, water balance, pH, and reproductive.

Course Outcomes
On completion of this course the students will be able to:

Describe the relationship between structure and function of the human body within the context of both the hierarchy of organization as well as the maintenance of homeostasis. Use medical terminology to describe anatomical features and alterations of homeostasis (disease states). Describe homeostasis and explain the consequences of a loss of homeostasis. Differentiate between positive and negative feedback
Be able to describe physiological processes from the cellular level through the organismal level as it relates to the cardiovascular, lymphatic, endocrine, respiratory, digestive, urinary and reproductive systems. Apply their understanding of homeostasis to the cardiovascular system, endocrine system, immune system, respiratory system, digestive system, renal system, and reproductive system
Be able to identify anatomical structures using anatomical specimens, models, slides and charts. Demonstrate understanding of atomic structure Describe the structures of the cardiovascular system and explain their functional relationships to each other
Critically analyze and evaluate physiological data and speculate medical diagnosis and prognosis
